5 cozy cafes to try this fall

Whether you want to catch up with an old friend or meet for a quick date before school pickup, nothing beats going for coffee!

Calgary is home to a phenomenal cafe scene, with dozens of independent coffee and tea shops catering to all kinds of different tastes and featuring brews from many different nations and backgrounds. While many of Calgary’s independent coffee shops are venerable landmarks already well-known to caffeine lovers across the city, we want to share five you may not have had the chance to enjoy yet!

Crystie’s Coffee House & Bistro

\n

(2121 194 Avenue SE #105)

\n

Great coffee, lots of light, and tons of space to work. All their baked goods are made fresh in-house, and they offer plenty of other drink options for those who aren’t coffee-inclined (including really, really good hot chocolate). If you’re in the far south and want to support local, we highly recommend Crystie’s!

Ground Press Coffee & Books

\n

(106 Sierra Springs Drive SE #111, Airdrie)

\n

Okay, so this one is in Airdrie. But we promise it’s worth the drive! This incredible, community-focused space is both a coffee shop and a new and used bookstore featuring local authors, and it’s quickly becoming a bustling hotspot with really good energy. It’s the kind of place you can browse for hours! (We also love the little reading nook in the corner for kids!)

Turca Breakfast House

\n

(2604 4 St NW)

\n

If you’ve never been for Turkish coffee, you’re missing out. Not only does Turca have some of the best in the city, it’s also a great spot for a traditional Turkish breakfast or lunch spread (best shared), sweets, and snacks. This is a perfect place to catch up and chat, and we love that you never feel rushed out the door!

Xin Chao Coffee

\n

(2255 32 St NE #3110)

\n

This coffee shop not only has a unique array ofclassic Vietnamese coffeehouse offerings, it also has excellent baked goods and food options like sticky rice, egg tarts, and spring rolls. Most importantly, Xin Chao is a really comfortable space to sit and enjoy each other’s company!

\n

Poésie co.

\n

(1119 Kensington Road NW)

\n

Brought to you by the team behind Yann Haute Patisserie, this new coffee and bakeshop is the perfect spot for when the sweet treat is the most important thing. You’ll smell the freshly-baked croissants before you see them! They have our new favorite hot chocolate in the city, using Valrhona chocolate for an incredibly rich, perfectly-portioned, oh-so-good sip. They also have a freezer full of take-and-bake pastries, so don’t miss your chance to bring a bit of the patisserie home with you! CCM
