Ready for a date night? Calgary’s best spots for parents to recharge

We spend a lot of our time (or let’s best honest, most of our time) dedicated to our children’s daily needs, and keeping up with their daily routines and schedules. Sometimes, the stress of our daily family lives makes us forget how important it is to put some of our time and energy into our partners.

\n \n

Dedicating this time is crucial not only to our relationship with our partners, but to our children. A strong partnership is a positive influence on our children, as they are reflections of our happiness and absorb our positive energy, and it is also extremely important for them to witness strong, healthy relationships.

\n

The best way to dedicate that time with our partners is to schedule a date night. A date night can be as simple as time at home playing cards once the kiddos have gone to bed, or it can be a more adventurous night out on the town. Here are some great date night ideas that can be found here in Calgary that are sure to bring laughs, smiles, and much-needed, wonderful time spent together.

Greta YYC - 213 10 Avenue SW

\n

Is a night of healthy competition what you’re after? If so, you’ll definitely find it at Greta YYC! Greta is an 18+ arcade with two levels of arcade games, including vintage arcade games to the newest of technology. You can compete side-by-side in games such as Skee-Ball, basketball, and Big Buck Hunter. Their Global Street Food menu is fantastic, and it’s all made fresh and locally sourced. They even have an indoor food truck! But don’t think Greta’s Street Food is all burgers and fries; they have a ton of great options, including the extremely delicious and gluten-free BBQ Chicken Bowl. You can eat and play at your leisure – just put the placard up on your table that says “I’m Off Playing Games” when you want to pop away from your table to go have more fun. They’re open Tuesday through Sunday from 3pm to 2am.

\n

On Tuesdays through Saturdays, they have Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm, where you can get, besides great food and drink specials, three hours of unlimited gaming for $20. On Sundays, gaming is only $5.50 per hour and all snacks are $5 off. Do you think the kids would love Greta? Check their Events page on their website regularly as on special occasions (such as Family Day weekend) they will do special event days for kids. Game on!

Jubilations - 1002 37 Street SW

\n

Are you feeling more like an evening of sitting down to enjoy dinner over some great laughs?

\n

Try Jubilations Dinner Theatre! Jubilations has been a staple in Calgary for 25 years.

\n

They offer five shows throughout the year, five days per week (Wednesdays through Sundays). Ticket prices are $75.95 on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and $81.95 on Fridays and Saturdays. Pro tip – you can purchase a voucher from Costco which will score you two tickets for $119.99. If you love them as much as I do, you can purchase their three- or five-show VIP packages at $188.25 and $306.00, respectively, for an even better deal, which come with even more perks.

\n

Dinner options change with every show, and always include an appetizer, a choice of approximately five different mains (one is always vegetarian and one is always prime rib, which you can upgrade to for a minimal charge), and a choice of two different desserts. The menu items are also each creatively and comically titled in reference to the show. They are happy to accommodate any food allergies; just advise them of such when making your reservation.

\n

And the shows themselves? They’re amazing and hilarious, with a cast of truly talented Canadian individuals with absolutely outstanding vocals that might even drag you into the night’s entertainment. Even your table servers play along for the evening and serve you in character. If you’re ready to break out of your character for a change, head on down to Jubilations!

Le Petit Chef - 525 5 Avenue SW

\n

Would you like to enjoy a dinner prepared by the smallest chef in the entire world? That is, one being only 6cm tall? Try Le Petit Chef, which is an international sensation, featuring a 3D dinner show right on your plate. The Dorian Hotel is presently hosting Le Petit Chef in Calgary.

\n

This charming animated mini Chef will do a performance for you prior to each course, which will keep you entertained all evening long.

\n

Le Petit Chef is a set menu, but you can choose either the Classic Menu or the Vegetarian menu for $129.50 per person, plus a 20 percent gratuity and GST. It’s a clever and truly unique dining experience. And if you can get away for an overnight, why not just stay at The Dorian for the full date night experience? Bon appetit!
